Rock Hopper Hop Yard

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~GROUND BREAKING SCHEDULED~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the weather is improving I feel it is time we get going on the Hopyard. I'd like to schedule the work day for Saturday April 10th @ 9am. With the use of the whiskey barrels as planters I don't think building this yard will be as difficult as first thought.
We will need general garden tools as the brewery has none. Also if you have compost to contribute please bring as much as you can.
Work to be done:
-Placement of half barrels in sloped embankment
-Sawing the barrels in half and holes cut in the heads for root freedom
-Holes dug for pole placement in cement
-Access stairs placed from sidewalk along building's South side
-General debris removal from the area
-Moderate Beer consumption
-50/50 Mixture of soil and compost in each planter
Hope to see all of you that signed up for this endevor on the 10th!
FUNDING has been determined to be by donations from volunteers and club members with deep pockets! Please sign up so we can get an idea of the potential split cost.
You can donate to the cause online via PayPal here!
With some luck we could have our own source of hops here in a couple years!
Come sign up and lend a hand on this cool project...
Have I relayed this yet??? PLEASE SIGN UP below!
=====================================
Hoppers,
We've been given the green light on a Rock Hopper Hop Yard to be setup in the back of the Rockyard Brewery!
I've taken point and developed a strategy that was approved by the owners via a ppt drawing I sumitted to them. The owners also volunteered to drop watering lines down from existing sprinklers to the hop plant beds.
Measurements will be taken to determine the amount of plants we can get in the ground. The varietals can be voted on by the members, but before we get that far there is some work to do.
Equipement needed;
- 32/ 2x6 Landscaping Planks ($64) FREE donated BY The Colorado School of Mines Fraternity Row!!
- Box of Galvanized Deck Screws ($20)
- 6/ bags of Quickcrete (@$3.50ea=$21)
- 2/ 4-6 foot 4inch diameter pipes (Approx. $20)
- 6-7/ Rhizomes varietal determined by RHBC (@$6ea=$42)
- 2/ yards of Horse Manure or Compost (Free)
- Mulch (FREE...Castle Rock gives this away to residents!)
Total Estimated Cost = $103
