Raw Materials Buyer/Planner
Responsibilities of this position include:
Purchases items, materials or services of a technical and specialized nature
* Responsible for locating or promoting possible new sources of supply and looks into alternative suppliers and materials when appropriate.
* Schedules and coordinates the delivery of materials used in product manufacturing according to production plans and forecasts.
* Controls the inventory of assigned production materials in accordance with management objectives.
* Ensures that requisitioned materials are sourced with suppliers that meet our performance standards at a competitive price and appropriate financial terms.
* Resolves problems with assigned production materials or supplier orders.
Contributes to the process of conducting pricing and contract negotiations
* Assures that the company does not pay more than, and whenever possible, pays less than the competition for like purchases and transportation.
* Participates in the budgeting process for specialized materials.
Responsible for developing and maintaining high level contact with key suppliers of items which have critical impact on manufacturing operations to ensure superior quality and delivery of needed goods
* Prepares agendas for vendor visits.
* Facilitates supplier problems/issues to an acceptable resolution (i.e.: quality, delivery issues.)
* Facilitates the contact and communications between vendors and NBB Managers.
Contributes to the development, implementation and improvement upon quality assurance methods (i.e.: metrics, parameters, control charts, corrective action requests.)
* Needs to be close to brewery processes that the raw materials may affect.
* Drives raw material vendor quality through development and continuous improvement of material specifications, testing methods, qualifications, audits, quality tracking, partnership meetings, corrective action requests, and vendor ratings.
* Statistical process control and root cause analysis for material and product quality issues.
* Communicates relevant information to operators, brewmasters, etc., in a concise reporting system.
Expert on malt and hops analysis. Facilitates all specification discussions, both internally and with vendors
* Facilitates raw material research and development.
Keeps constantly up-to-date on economic conditions and/or business situations as they affect the materials we use as well as the ever-changing specifications for the products we purchase.
An ideal candidate for this position would possess the following skills/traits:
* Expert working knowledge and abilities in vendor relations
* Expert negotiating skills and abilities
* Expert time management skills and abilities
* Expert working knowledge of purchasing/procurement policies and procedures
* Solid analytical thinking skills – Six Sigma Green Belt desirable
* Basic working knowledge of accounting principles and concepts
* Solid working knowledge and abilities with computers & related software, especially Microsoft Excel
* Solid interpersonal skills and abilities
* Solid knowledge of the beer industry
* Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or government regulations and write reports and business correspondence
* Ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of personnel within the organization, including presenting information and responding to questions from various individuals and groups or managers, clients, customers, and the general public
* Ability to plan own work and lead work groups or teams, when needed
* Ability to adapt to changing priorities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure
* Ability to exercise initiative and judgment as well as make decisions within the scope of assigned authority
* Requires an Associates Degree (AAS) and/or Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) with a minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience
The starting wage range for this position is between $47,000 and $58,000 depending on experience.
