4th Annual KROC World Brewers Forum Homebrew Competition-Entry Window
4th Annual Keg Ran Out Club World Brewers Forum Homebrew Competition
Judging - September 4th, 2010 Awards - September 16th, 2010
The Keg Ran Out Club of Broomfield, Colorado invites you to enter our Great American Beer Challenge homebrew competition to be held in conjunction with the 16th Annual KROC World Brewers Forum. This is the event to attend after the Thursday night session of the Great American Beer Festival and is a Qualifying Event on the Front Range Homebrewer and Judge of the Year circuit. Homebrew entries will be evaluated by experienced judges and all entries will receive score sheets and comments. Ribbons will be awarded for the top entries as detailed below, as well as for a Best of Show. This year’s competition judging will be held at CB&Potts in Westminster on September 4th, and the awards presented at the World Brewers Forum on September 16th at the Marriott City Center, Denver, CO. Dennis O’Harrow of CB & Potts will also be selecting from the category winners to pair for the 2011 GABF ProAm competition.
Homebrew Competition Rules The Competition is open to amateur homebrewers age 21 or older. All entries must be handcrafted products made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, etc.).
Categories All “American Style” BJCP categories will be grouped into flights based on number of entries, and medals will be awarded for the top three positions in each flight. Only entries in the categories and subcategories below will be accepted. 1 A, B, C (Lite, Standard and Premium American Light Lager) 2 C (Classic American Pilsner) 4 A (Dark American Lager) 6 A, B, D (Cream Ale, Blonde Ale, American Wheat or Rye) 7 B (California Common) 10 A, B, C (American Pale, Amber and Brown Ale) 12 B (Robust Porter) 13 E (American Stout) 14 B, C (American IPA, Imperial IPA) 19 C (American Barleywine) 20 (Fruit Beer - based on another enterable American style only) 21 A, B (Spice Herb Vegetable, Winter Specialty Beer - – American focused, DESCRIPTION REQUIRED) 22 B, C (Other Smoked, Wood Aged Beer - both based on another enterable American style only) 23 (Specialty – American focused, DESCRIPTION REQUIRED) *42 (American Sour – American focused, DESCRIPTION REQUIRED)
Bottles An entry shall ideally consist of two (2) bottles, 10 - 22 ounce, preferably green or brown glass. If you only are able to send a single bottle it will be judged as far as possible, but may not be deemed eligible for best of show round unless sufficient sediment free volume remains. Bottles must be clean of all paper, printed or enameled labels, label adhesive, misc. debris, or any other distinguishing features. Raised designs or brand names, clear glass, wire swing-top and oversized (22 oz. or champagne) bottles are acceptable. Printed crown caps are acceptable but must be blacked out completely with black marker to assure anonymity. Bottles will not be returned to entrants.
Paperwork Each bottle shall have a bottle identification form attached with a rubber band to facilitate collection of forms; glue and/or tape are unacceptable. A single entry/recipe form must accompany each entry. ProMash entry forms are also accepted. Enter your beer according to the 2008 BJCP classifications -- a copy of these classifications is available on the bjcp.org website. Please fill out the top of the entry forms completely, but recipes are not required. Be meticulous about noting any special ingredients that MUST be specified per the BJCP Style Guidelines. Failure to note such ingredients will impact the judges' scoring of your entry. PLEASE INCLUDE AN EMAIL ADDRESS. (un)Limitations Brewers are NOT limited to one entry per BJCP subcategory.
Entry Fees An entry fee of $6 per entry will be collected on all entries. Attach entry fee to the Entry and Recipe form. (Note: all KROC members’ first entry is free.) Make checks payable to Keg Ran Out Club.
More Rules Infractions of these rules may disqualify any entry, but I’m pretty laid back unless there are BOLD CAPS involved. Disqualified beers will still be judged but will not be eligible for awards. The judges may decide to not award any or all places in any Category. The decisions of the judges and ultimately the organizer are final.
