COMPETITION GUIDELINES
The Gnarly Barley Brew Festival invites you to be a part of the 2nd annual Gnarly Barley Homebrew Competition! This competition is sanctioned by the AHA (American Homebrewers Association) and the BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program) and will be coordinated and judged by people experienced and dedicated to the art of home brewing.
The competition is open to amateur home brewers 21 years of age or older. All entries must be personally homebrewed by the entrant. Entrants are limited to one entry per BJCP subcategory, with the exception of Category 23A (Historic, Experi-mental or other uncategorized beer), where types can used as subtypes of the main category and more than one different beer entered, one in each subtype.
Each beer will be judged according to the 2008 BJCP Style Guidelines. Beers of similar styles may be grouped together to allow for manageable judging sessions and reasonable competition. The top beer in each category will be judged in a final round to determine the Best of Show Beer.
Two (2) bottles, 10 - 22 ounce, of each entry are required for judging. It is pre-ferred that bottles be brown or green glass. Bottled must be free from identifying marks (labels, marked caps, or any other unique features). Printed crown caps will be accepted providing the print is blacked out completely to assure anonymity. Failure to observe the competition guidelines will result in disqualification of the entry.
Enter your brew in the category and subcategory where you feel it will perform best. Judges do not see your entry form. Judges or organizers will not classify or reclassify your beer. All entries become the property of the Gnarly Barley Brew Festival.

JUDGING Homebrew judging will be on Saturday, July 31, 2010.
Judging sessions will be held at the Holiday Inn Express, Loveland CO beginning at 9:00am.
You do not need to be a registered BJCP judge to participate.
If you have any questions about judging, please contact the Competition Coordianator, Pamela McAlpin.
Lunch will be provided for Judges and Stewards.
Judging will take place on Saturday, July 31st and Awards presented on Saturday, August 7th at the Gnarly Barley Brew Festival at the Larimer County Fair. Qualified judging of all entries is the primary goal of our event. Judges will evaluate and score each entry. The average of the scores will rank each entry in its category. Each flight will have at least one BJCP judge. If a category has more than 11 entries, it will be split into two flights. Categories with a small number of entries may be combined at the discretion of the competition organizers. The Competition Coordinator or other qualified person will review elements of beer categories and styles with each panel prior to judging. The Best of Show judging will be determined by a Blue Ribbon Panel based on a second judging of the top winners.
Winners will be announced during the Gnarly Barley Brew Festival on Saturday, August 7, 2010. The festival is from 1:00 - 6:00 pm. Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each judged category. Additional prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, Stewards Choice, Most Original Name, and a Standing Ovations Award selected from participant's entering a homebrew competition for the first time.
