Events
The Evanston, WY brewfest is on July 25, 2009 12-10 p.m. The fest will have microbrew, live entertainment, food, and fun. I do not see a cost for attendance at the event listed. Interestingly, there is a homebrewing competition portion of the event on Friday, July 24th, and they have sent out the invite to participate in the "People's Choice" competition on Saturday the 25th to homebrewers. I have sent an inquiry to the organizer about the possibility of the club going up to participate in the People's Choice competition - get some extra miles out of the NHC bar perhaps.
Details for the homebrewing competition:
$5.00 per entry checks to Evanston Main Street Promotions
2 12 oz brown bottles with the usual specs. They will take clear glass and swing top, though discourage the use. Strangely, they have a different "registration" deadline than a beer receipt deadline, wanting an entry/recipe form and the checks by Monday, July 13, 2009 with an entry shipping deadline of Monday, July 20, 2009 for receipt of beer. I'd advocate making sure the beer is shipped by the "registration" deadline.
Shipping address:
Evanston Main Street Promotions
1008 Main Street
Evanston, WY 82930
Also very odd, while they say they are using BJCP guidelines, the entry form only allows for a check on the categories of "Ale," "Lager," or "Wheat." I've also asked the coordinator to clarify this question. Competition information is attached. The bottle label form was in an odd format, I've asked for a .doc format and will post that shortly.
New Belgium Urban Assault Ride
July 26, 2009 (Sun)
Denver, CO
Beers, Bikes and Big Wheels! The funky bike scavenger hunt where teams hit checkpoints all over the city - completing crazy obstacles at each stop. A huge party follows with New Belgium Beer, music and a legendary prize raffle. Web site.
As a fundraiser for the club we thought a Texas Hold'em tournament would be pretty darn cool. If the first one is successful, we may do this on a regular basis. So, here's the scoop.
Date: Friday, July 31th, at 7:00 p.m. Location Rick Mazza's House
Details: Tournament will be traditional Texas Hold'em. Buy in is $20.00. Everyone who plays should bring home brew to share, we'll have snacks and other goodies wherever the tournament ends up being held. Play will be elimination style, no cash outs.
Prizes: Well, it is a fundraiser for the club, so 50% of the buy in money will go to the club fund. The remaining money will be divided in a 60/30/10 split for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Other prizes may also be awarded with possible drawing, etc, for participants. Even if poker isn't your thing, this should be a really fun Friday night!

I'm going to assist my never brewed a beer before neighbor, Danielle, in brewing a beer to enter into Queen of Beer. It's a hefeweizen titled "You little hussey-weizen." We'll likely get going by 10:00 a.m. if anyone wants to stop by. Jason will likely not be there as I think he's going camping by himself this weekend, but Danielle and I certainly welcome company.
So we're doing it. Brewing our first sour, Greg Rulz! Yes, that is the name of the beer. It is a Flanders' Red which will use La Folie starter directly from New Belgium. We're brewing it this Saturday. Come by and share our fear. At least one sour will be opened for the occasion. Oh yeah, we're doing a mead too - buckwheat honey. We'll call it Lil' Rascal Mead. 17508 Lamar Ct, as always.
