SUMMARY:May 2 Big Brew - CHANGE NOTED!
DESCRIPTION:
Change of plans! Due to an obligation which takes Jim away from the Rockyard on May 2 and Jason's wife's baby shower (and imminent delivery) we'll be relocating the big brew to our house 17508 Lamar Ct with a few twists.

We'll be brewing a \\"club effort\\" of the SMS Minnow Recipe to take to NHC. If you want to bring your setup to our house\, we'll have space in the garage\, on the driveway\, and in our cul de sac to set up brewing equipment.

We're also going to a Brew 10\,000 inspired beer. Approximately&nbsp\;two years ago\, Rogue's head brewer said style be damned and decided to put all of his \\"favorite ingredients\\" into one beer and see how it turned out. It was delicious\, so we're using that as inspiration. Here are the details\: Every person who wants to participate needs to bring one thing to put in the beer - please comment to the brew post so we know you're participating.&nbsp\;

Do not tell what you are bringing before hand. It should be something you like in your beer. Ie\; hops\, speciality grains\, adjuncts\, whatever. We'll brew 5 gallons and will tap at some upcoming Rock Hoppers event. This is for us to drink\, not for NHC. The only restrictions on what you can bring are 1) no brett/funk containing items and 2) nothing you wouldn't actually want to put in a beer (I'll trust your judgment on that one). We'll likely use a neutral ale yeast\, like nottingham\, if that affects anyone's choices.

The&nbsp\; official recipes for the big brew are a Saison and a Dark Mild and are available on the big brew website. <a href=\\"http\://www.beertown.org/events/bigbrew/\\">www.beertown.org/events/bigbrew/&nbsp\;

SUMMARY:American Craft Beer Week
DESCRIPTION:
America's small and independent craft brewers (see <a href=\\"http\://www.beertown.org/craftbrewing/statistics.html\\" target=\\"_blank\\">Craft Brewing Statistics) are making special plans for the annual American Craft Beer Week (May 11-17)\, a national celebration highlighting the culture and contributions of craft beer. These brewers want the week to inspire beer enthusiasts to declare their independence by supporting breweries that produce fewer than 2 million barrels of beer a year and are independently owned. In the works are special brewery tours\, beer and food pairing events\, special release craft beers and festivals all across the U.S. A Declaration of Beer Independence is available on the program web site and the <a href=\\"http\://tinyurl.com/acbw-fb\\" target=\\"_blank\\">American Craft Beer Week fan page on Facebook\, which participating breweries are encouraging beer enthusiasts to sign. Local breweries and restaurants will also post a copy of the Declaration of Beer Independence so that patrons can show their support.

Changed to a weeklong event in 2006\, the inaugural American Craft Beer Week was recognized by the U.S. Congress with <a href=\\"http\://www.beertown.org/pdf/ACBW_Resolution_753.pdf\\" target=\\"_blank\\">House Resolution 753 (PDF file). The week has continued to grow with interest and support from beer enthusiasts and the media. In 2007\, more than 150 brewers registered their community celebrations.

For a list of participating breweries in colorado\, go to the AHA web site. <a href=\\"http\://www.beertown.org/apps/acbw/events.html\\" title=\\"http\://www.beertown.org/apps/acbw/events.html\\">http\://www.beertown.org/apps/acbw/events.html

SUMMARY:An Evening with Peter Bouckaert
DESCRIPTION:
On May 15 at 6\:00 p.m. I have scheduled an evening with Peter Bouckaert\, head brewer of New Belgium brewery. Peter has graciously agreed to present to the Rock Hoppers\, just us\, no one else\, about the experimental beers of New Belgium\, ie\: La Folie\, Kevin's Ale\, Le Fleur Misseur\, Bier De Mars&nbsp\;and others. Expect some very unique sampling and an&nbsp\;extremely interesting discussion with Peter about \\"the bugs\\" as he calls them. I don't know how many of you have seen Peter speak before\, but this is not an opportunity to be missed. He is\, quite frankly\, incredible.

Please\, please\, please make every effort to attend this event as Peter and New Belgium are going out of their way to provide this for our club. You will have an opportunity for essentially one on one discussion with Peter about anything you want to know. He's a Belgian (born and educated) master brewer. Sign up by May&nbsp\;5 as I have promised New Belgium a head count for logistic purposes.

Car pooling (or overnight in Fort Collins) is encouraged and I'm sure arrangements on that will follow.

SUMMARY:NHC Fundraising Garage Sale - May 30.
DESCRIPTION:
Here's the scoop\, the club is looking at ways to raise money for NHC. There currently are a lot of exciting plans in the works for NHC this year and in coming years\, but we need the funds to make these plans a reality. So......

On May 29-31 our neighborhood\, Clarke Farms\, is having its community garage sale. Since the advertising will be done for us and fairly high traffic is expected\, we're looking to hold a&nbsp\;NHC fundraising garage sale&nbsp\; on Saturday the 30th.

Over&nbsp\;the next few weeks\, it's a great time to do a little spring cleaning and collect any unwanted items from your house you want to donate to the garage sale. The week before the sale\, we'll take&nbsp\;drop offs at our house\, particularly for larger items. You can also bring items to the May meeting to&nbsp\;pass off to us. We're going to price everything to sell\, no offers rejected\,&nbsp\;and no items will be returned to the donees.&nbsp\;Anything not sold&nbsp\;after the sale will be taken to&nbsp\;Goodwill. Donating items for the garage sale is purely voluntary\, but the club appreciates everyone who is willing to participate. If you're willing to donate items\, please sign up\, so we can get a rough head count on those willing to participate.

Anyone who wants to stop by and help \\"man\\" the garage sale is also most appreciated. All money raised goes to the NHC fund which is for schwag\, t-shirts to sell\, etc\, not for individual travel costs (I'm sure the NHC plans will be discussed more in depth at upcoming meetings).

We'll also likely hold a brew day in conjunction with the garage sale as that will be another means of gathering interest to our sale.

&nbsp\;
