Events
After two days worth of hard work with Greg (read, Greg did most of the work), our new tiered system is just about ready to rock and roll. A few coats of high heat paint and installation of a pump is all that is left to do. Attached are two photos to check out.
Drum roll......so, please mark your calendars for the first brew on the new system and our 4th wedding anniversary party (as the system was our gift to each other). On April 11th (anniversary is April 9th so we'll be celebrating it at the RHBC meeting) we'll be brewing an American Barleywine affectionately titled "Till Death Do We Brew."
Please stop by any time during the day to check out the new system. We will have snacks available and we will be breaking into the aging fridge and have several special commercial beers to share during the day as well. As always, children and significant others are welcome.
We'll plan the extra special tasting for 1:00 p.m.

Please sign up below ASAP so we can give Great Divide a head count.
From Jim Fixari, KROC President:
I'd like to know how many people from FOTR would be interested in attending so we can give a total head count to Great Divide. The last time we had about 50 people representing 7 different clubs from CO Springs to Cheyenne, WY.
I've been in contact with Taylor Reese from Great Divide, Bernie Taillon from FOTR, and Chad Pippin from Mile High Monks to get the word out and help organize the event. Great Divide will provide tours and give us a drink special. There is no food at Great Divide but lots of places around or you can have food delivered to Great Divide.

Hop Disciples meeting for April is on the 23rd, and we will most definitely taste some Stranahan's barrel-aged concoctions as well as other special beers-in-progress.
Time: 6:00 pm
Place: Great Divide Brewing Company Brew House...where the magic happens.
Please use the sign up below if you will be participating in the big brew on May 2 and want grain. Jim has graciously agreed to donate unmilled 2 row for the base malt. We'll pick up the requested amount and bring it to our house for the brew on the 2nd. We have a mill, but if one or two other participants also has a portable mill that can be brought over, that would make life easier on all of us as ours is hand crank. :) If you sign up, we'll allot 10lbs of 2 row for you unless you comment below that you need more than 10 lbs. We'll be picking up the base grain for the Frankenbier at well. Please sign up by April 24th so that we can now how much grain to get the weekend prior to the big brew.

Change of plans! Due to an obligation which takes Jim away from the Rockyard on May 2 and Jason's wife's baby shower (and imminent delivery) we'll be relocating the big brew to our house 17508 Lamar Ct with a few twists.
We'll be brewing a "club effort" of the SMS Minnow Recipe to take to NHC. If you want to bring your setup to our house, we'll have space in the garage, on the driveway, and in our cul de sac to set up brewing equipment.
We're also going to a Brew 10,000 inspired beer. Approximately two years ago, Rogue's head brewer said style be damned and decided to put all of his "favorite ingredients" into one beer and see how it turned out. It was delicious, so we're using that as inspiration. Here are the details: Every person who wants to participate needs to bring one thing to put in the beer - please comment to the brew post so we know you're participating.
Do not tell what you are bringing before hand. It should be something you like in your beer. Ie; hops, speciality grains, adjuncts, whatever. We'll brew 5 gallons and will tap at some upcoming Rock Hoppers event. This is for us to drink, not for NHC. The only restrictions on what you can bring are 1) no brett/funk containing items and 2) nothing you wouldn't actually want to put in a beer (I'll trust your judgment on that one). We'll likely use a neutral ale yeast, like nottingham, if that affects anyone's choices.
The official recipes for the big brew are a Saison and a Dark Mild and are available on the big brew website. www.beertown.org/events/bigbrew/
This is a Saison themed beer dinner held in conjunction with the Big Brew. To be held at our abode, 17508 Lamar Ct. Please sign up if you plan to attend and we'll coordinate food and beer with those signed up.

America's small and independent craft brewers (see Craft Brewing Statistics) are making special plans for the annual American Craft Beer Week (May 11-17), a national celebration highlighting the culture and contributions of craft beer. These brewers want the week to inspire beer enthusiasts to declare their independence by supporting breweries that produce fewer than 2 million barrels of beer a year and are independently owned. In the works are special brewery tours, beer and food pairing events, special release craft beers and festivals all across the U.S. A Declaration of Beer Independence is available on the program web site and the American Craft Beer Week fan page on Facebook, which participating breweries are encouraging beer enthusiasts to sign. Local breweries and restaurants will also post a copy of the Declaration of Beer Independence so that patrons can show their support.
Changed to a weeklong event in 2006, the inaugural American Craft Beer Week was recognized by the U.S. Congress with House Resolution 753 (PDF file). The week has continued to grow with interest and support from beer enthusiasts and the media. In 2007, more than 150 brewers registered their community celebrations.
