Home brewer Patrick Bresnahan shares his bourbon stout experiment, trying to find the proper amount of bourbon to add to the beer.

The Perfect Storm was renamed Mother of All Storms in 2010, and the name’s not the only thing that’s changed about this bourbon-barrel-aged, English-style barleywine: After three years in our cellar, the once hot brew turned luscious. A slight booziness tickles the nose as sweet caramel and cherry scents pair with refined tobacco and almonds. A slick, sherrylike mouthfeel carries elegant aged notes across the tongue; a sweet caramel base pulls dark cherries, vanilla, tobacco and pepper together. Despite this beer’s age, alcohol still snakes through its cohesive ensemble of scents and flavors, and while it could rest for another year or two, The Perfect Storm’s swell seems to be at its peak.

 

LAY THIS DOWN: Widmer Barrel Aged Brrrbon ’11

This bourbon-barrel-aged version of Brrr Seasonal Ale (a hopped-up amber) is like a race through the mouth among four contestants: citrusy hops, bready malts, woody tannins and spicy, hot bourbon. Tasted fresh, it’s a palate pleaser, but after a year in the cellar its threads will fuse into a rich profile. The bright orange hop notes will fade, but Brrrbon will emerge with more developed barrel notes: Likely, coconut and vanilla will accent pronounced caramel sweetness, while the bourbon’s heat will bow to a pleasant peppery spice. Put one away this winter, and you’ll have a stunning barrel-aged beer waiting next year.

For sale is a brand new, 10 gallon Blichmann Boilermaker brew kettle for homebrewing. It's never seen a flame.

Blichmann products are top of the line and never discounted, so this is a deal. I am selling it because I am going with a larger system.

I have 2 corny kegs for home brew. These are the new style cornelius type with pin lock posts. They come with new O-rings for the lids, posts and tubes. These are $130 new and these are used, but are in like new condition. I'm asking $60 each.

This is the STATION WAGON of the GODS! Zeus himself couldn't have had a better chariot with which to hurtle himself through traffic!

I personally have had so many great times in this car. I can't even begin to tell you how awesome it has been.

It is by no means in great shape but with a little work you could get another 30k miles out of it! I mean come on, $450 is a wicked deal!

It currently has: 200,000 miles on the engine. There is a visible leak in the radiator hose and the rear driver's side quarter is smashed in from a hit and run. I don't have the time to fix this vehicle but I wish I did because she has been so good to me! The thermo gauge runs a little hot so if you drive it away from the sale, you might wanna get home quick. Just don't drive it too fast.

This son of a bitch has: a CD/tape player, good speakers, fairly clean interior, awesome steering, new-ish front wheel bearings, nice interior, good tires and aftermarket tinting!

Come check it out. Appointments are filling up quickly! Will definitely consider a trade for a really sweet over/under 12ga SHOTGUN or HOME BREW EQUIPMENT. But that's it. Don't offer me stupid shit like snow mobiles and the like. Seriously.
